SPAR entered into Chinese market and opened the first SPAR store in 2005 with the approval of the Ministry of Commerce and CCFA, supporting the development of voluntary retail chain model with regional retailers in China. The SPAR model creates a key approach in which locally owned Chinese retailers to compete with multinational retail entrants. SPAR China Group currently consists eight partners Shandong Jiajiayue, Guangdong Jiarong, Shanxi Meetall, Beijing Huaguan, Sichuan Dehui, Henan Sanmao, Hebei Zhangjiakou and Yunan Jinfang with stores widespreaded in 9 provinces and regions. By the end of 2016, SPAR China operates over 395 stores, among which 140 are large scaled hypermarket, with a total sales area of over 1,033,000m2 – over 14% of the total worldwide SPAR retail space.

 
Memorabilia
  • November 2004, Shandong Jiajiayue Group Co. Ltd and became the first SPAR partner in China. In April 28, 2005, the first SPAR store in China was opened in Weihai city.  
  • November 2006,Dongguan Jiarong Supermarket Co. Ltd. obtained sub-license from SPAR. The first three SPAR Guangdong stores were opened at the same day 22 Nov.2006.
  • June 2008, Shanxi Meetall Group Co. Ltd.. SPAR Shanxi covers two provinces of Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. The first SPAR Shanxi store was opened in Sep., 2008.
  • In 2010, Beijing Huaguan Trade and Business Co.Ltd. obtained sub-license from SPAR. The 1st SPAR Beijing store and the 100th SPAR store in China was opened on 5 Sep, 2010.
  • July 2012, Sichuan Dehui DHBX obtained sub-license from SPAR.
  • April 2014, Henan Sanmao Group signed the licence agreement and formally joined SPAR.
  • July 2016, Hebei Zhangjiakou Fuxiang signed the licence agreement and formally joined SPAR.
  • April 2017, Yunan Jinfang Commerical Group signed the licene agreement and formally joined SPAR.
